Linking Schools - When St John's visited Banks Lane
On Wednesday 19th June 2013 St John's visited Banks Lane. They were very surprised at how big Banks Lane is compared to St John's. The first comment from our class was "They have so many doors!"
We enjoyed looking around their school before playing circle games where we had to make different shapes using our bodies.
We then had break time in their quad which was lots of fun. After playtime we took part in two activities: collecting items to match adjectives in Banks Lane's woodland area and learning how to play a song on the keyboard!
We got to eat our lunch outside before using all our natural items we had collected in the morning to create a 3D piece of art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy!
We had so much fun learning about Banks Lane's school and got to know our Banks Lane friends a lot better! We can't wait to see them again when we visit Lyme Park with them!!

We shared what we had found with the other groups. |
We learned a 3 note melody. |

Linking Schools - When Banks Lane visited St John's!
Today Banks Lane Junior School visited St John's Primary School. We really enjoyed showing them around our school and getting to know our Banks Lane friends.
First we played circle games. Then we look them on a tour of the school. They thought our school was tiny! They also said they had a separate hall to eat in and were shocked we had no corridors! After a quick playime on the hill, we went on a trip in our local area to explore the Heaton's Common. We collected items of interest to use in nature collages during the afternoon.
Once we returned from the Common we had lunch on the hill and another playtime. The boys from St John's played football with the boys from Banks Lane! The girls enjoyed rolling down the hill!
After lunch we enjoyed two activities: a name game where we had to find out something we had in common with someone from the other school and a collage activity using the things we had collected in the morning.
We really enjoyed spending the day with Banks Lane. We can't wait to see Banks Lane again...we only have to wait until Wednesday to see them and their school! We are very excited!

Photography Week
Last week the children took part in photography week as part of our new topic "To Infinity and Beyond". They took part in a Starsnappers workshop where they had the opportunity to learn about specialist equipment and take professional photographs. This was reinforced through classroom workshops. This is what happened in Year 3:
We really enjoyed our week learning about photography!
We used photographs to make collages. |
We used watercolour pencils. |
We made artwork using collage, paints and pastels |
We did photograph symmetry. |
We had to look carefully at our features and make sure the side we drew was exactly the same as the photograph. |
We used pencil crayon to add colour to our portraits. |
We cut up a photograph of ourselves and used it to do some weaving. |
We used "Magic Collage" to create collages using the photographs we had taken. |
Our Starsnappers Workshop
We learnt about the camera. |
We got to use the equipment! |
They changed the background colour for each picture! |
We learnt about he equipment and how it is used to create the perfect photograph! |
We took our own photographs. I had to take them from different views (giant's view, snail's view, eye level view and possum's view)
We had a celebration assembly.
Year 1 had been doing photography linked with space. |
Year 2 had also been making collages incorporating their own photographic portraits. |
Year 4 made a class collage. |
Year 6 took photographs thinking about perspective. |
They used photographs to create collage. |
We really enjoyed our week learning about photography!
