The Start of Our New Role Play Area - Tutankhamen's Palace!

The children have started to make their role play area. They have thought about what would be inside Tutankhamen's palace and how they are going to use the space that we have. The children have started to make objects for the role play area. They started by making the large statues, small objects and statues out of clay, weaving Tutankhamen's bed and wall decorations. The children are really enjoying making decisions about their role play area!

Here are some pictures that capture their work:

They started to weave Tutankhamen's mattress using wool.

They used pastels and crayons to create wall paintings.

The children used crayons to write secret messages using hierohlyphics.

They started to make the large statues using wire, boxes and mod-rock. The children got very messy but enjoyed every minute!

The children used clay to make small objects and statues.

Dr Digby's Problem...

The children were given a problem by an archeaologist called Dr Digby. He wanted Year 3 and Year 4 to help him to work out where to dig first. The children have been finding out about soil and investigating soil to help him with this problem.

The children had to think of words to describe how each soil looked, smelt and felt.

The children had questions they had to find the answers to using non-fiction books and laptops. They added to a shared mind map.

Making Tutankhamen's Tomb

This week the children designed and made Tutankhamen's tomb. The children made all the decisions as to what they would need and researched what objects were found in each part of the tomb.

This is our finished tomb. The children made the Burial Chamber, Treasury, Annexe and Antechamber.

Child Poverty Day - Making a Difference through Music

The children had a fantastic day today. The year 3 and 4 children worked together to learn about child poverty around the world.

The day started with the children receiving a card each:

Each card included the name of a child, where the child lives and a gift that had been given to them. The children had to find other children with a similar card.

The children had a ukulele workshop. They learnt how to play Smoke on the Water. They really enjoyed themselves! The children found out that learning to play to ukulele would help to sponsor a child in need in the world.

The children worked together as a group, using the non-ficiton library and the laptops, to answer questions they had about their child. They put together a presentation to share what they had learnt about their child with the rest of Year 3 and 4.

We made a world map together and put the pictures of all the children we had learnt about on the map. We learnt that there are children living in poverty all over the world including in the UK. The children told each other how they felt grateful and lucky to come to school, have a home and lovely things to play with.

A Great Start to the Spring Term!

Year 3 have started to learn about the Egyptians. They have learnt about how we know about the past by thinking like archaeologists.

The children worked together to make a class map of Egypt.

They used non-fiction books to find out facts that they found interesting to share with the class.

The children learnt a story using symbols and actions about the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb. They practised the story as a class and in pairs.

They learnt more about the treasures found in Tutankhamen's tomb by thinking of questions and finding the answers to these questions using search engines and other websites.
